Silas was born in Middelburg in 1976, where his older brother taught him how to draw at the age of three. Influenced by skateboard graphics he started drawing more seriously. He joined the Willem de Kooning art academy in Rotterdam, from which he graduated in 2000. Today he makes a living as an artist by making paintings and illustrations. Silas' figurative work can be recognized by his characteristic use of colour and dreamy atmospheres. His primary subjects are melancholy figures and animals. For his paintings he uses acrylic paint often in combination with mixed media. Silas also is a member of the art collective Antistrot, who are making name in the art world by doing shows worldwide, from New York to Tokyo.
